What's a "Village"?
It's a neighbor with a key.
It;s an old friend.
It's a family member who cares.
It's a way for all these people to talk to each other, to help you out, in case you ever need it.
Why "Spiral"?
Build your village, then invite your friends to build theirs and offer to be involved. Pass it on!
Who needs a Village?
We all need people we can lean on on, but some of us need our village more than others. How many of these apply to you?
- I live alone
- I have a potentially life-threatening medical condition (eg, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, asthma, serious allergy, etc)
- I have (a) dependent child(ren) at home
- I’m a single parent with (a) dependent child(ren) at home
- My family lives far away
- I don't have any living blood relatives, or I’m not in touch with my relatives
- I have (a) pet(s)
- I'm over 55
- I have a disability that affects my mobility, or my ability to live independently
- I live in a rural area where I don't have neighbors nearby
- It's not easy for me to afford unexpected expenses (like major car repairs or medical bills)
- I live in an area without good cell service
- It would be difficult for me to arrange transportation to the doctor if I needed urgent medical care
- I'm an alcoholic
- I use illegal narcotics
- I struggle with depression or suicidal thoughts
- I have a non-chemical addiction (like gambling or sex addiction)
- I'm a sex worker
- I have a mental health condition that could affect my safety (eg schizophrenia, bipolar disorder)
- I'm in a relationship with an abusive partner, or I'm a minor child with abusive parents
- I have been threatened or harassed recently
- I belong to a demographic group that is subject to frequent physical threats or harassment (eg ethnic or religious minority, lgbtq)
- I live in an area with a high rate of violent crime
- My friends, family and neighbors are separate groups who don't know each other
- My immigration status is not secure
